The "Three Lanes" refer to the alleys on the left side of Nanhou Street, namely Guanglu Lane, Wenru Lane, and Yijin Lane. The "Seven Alleys" consist of Jibi Alley, Gong Alley, Anmin Alley, Huang Alley, Ta Alley, Langguan Alley, and Yangqiao Alley.

This historic district is acclaimed as the "Living Fossil of China's Ancient Urban Lane System", and has been designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a 5A-rated free scenic spot.
